If you live in the area of League City on SH 96, also known as League City Parkway, between SH 3 and SH 146 you’ve probably noticed all the grooves in the road as of late and wondered what is going on. TXDOT is in the process of performing a process called Overlay of Asphaltic Concrete Pavement to better the road in both usability and longevity. SH 96 is 10+ years old, and after testing by TXDOT Engineers it was clear to them that this road needed to be a high priority to be serviced. The work being performed on the road began on July 22, 2012 and is estimated to be completed by October 2012.
The work on the road will be performed in stages, which includes:
- Phase 1: Milling which is what we see right now on the road. This is what causes all of the grading and grooves on the concrete with the loose rocks.
- Phase 2: Repairs, these are ongoing through the entire project and are underway now.
- Phase 3: Putting a Seal Coat on the concrete, this began on August 15th.
- Phase 4: Asphaltic Concrete Pavement Overlay, this is the final step to repairing and leveling the road and provides the best ride quality for all us commuters.
This project is currently ongoing on all phases on the entire 7.226 mile stretch of road that is being serviced. If you have any additional questions or concerns in regards to this, you can contact TXDOT at the following link to submit your inquiries. http://www.txdot.gov/contact_us/form/
