Construction of entertainment facilities, retail, hotel and office space appear to be on the horizon for League City in 2013. All these planned venues will be located between League City Parkway (Hwy 96) and FM 646 along the I-45 corridor.
Studio Movie Grill
This past fall, (September 2012), an article published by Laura Elder (The Daily News-Biz Buzz) stated that the Dallas-based Studio Movie Grill land purchase was soon to be finalized; this is a 6-acre parcel in League City. A $9 million, 12-screen movie theater is planned for this plat of land located on the northeast corner of I-45 and Victory Lakes Drive.
According to Ms. Elder’s article, “the League City Theater will include high-end lounge chairs and individual dining tables. It also will include Texas Instruments DLP-powered projectors by Barco and Dolby’s most-advanced 3D and digital technology on all 12 screens and boast 2,500 seats combined”.
100 Acre Development near Big League Dreams
The newest update comes from the finalized sale of 100 acres located near Big League Dreams Sports Park. The Pinnacle Alliance Fund purchase from Compass Bank involves three tracts of land: 19 acres on the north side of Big League Dreams; 65 acres on the south side of the sports complex and 15 acres fronting FM 646. The current plan is to develop a mixed-use project of retail, restaurants, hotels offices and possibly multi-family dwellings. We will have to stay tuned for more information coming in 2013.
League City is the largest city in Galveston County and is quickly becoming more of a stopping point for tourists and shoppers. As the population of League City has increased, residents have long waited to have more conveniences located a short drive away, and it appears that wait will soon be over!
