You might guess the first three sets of numbers as area codes in Houston and the Bay Area, and you would be right, but what is 346?

The Public Utility Commission (PUC) of Texas has announced the addition of area code 346 to accommodate the continued growth in the area. The new area code will exist along with the current area codes, meaning new phone/cell number requests as of July 1st will be assigned the 346 code.

The counties affected are: Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, San Jacinto, and Waller. When dialing the new area code there will be no difference as the current numbers; the 10-digit dialing for local calls will still be required.

To view the map of the affected area, visit the Texas Public Utility Commission’s website.
