October is the season for fall colors, (hopefully) cooler weather, and Halloween FUN!
The Kemah Boardwalk has many activities/events scheduled to celebrate ‘All Hallow’s Eve’. The sights and sounds of Boo on the Boardwalk can be found at the Dungeon of Doom Haunted House and the Little Boo Haunted Fun House. Pumpkin decorating, costume contests, music, and trick or treating is also available for young and old tricksters. A Costume Contest for ages 12 and under will be held October 19th and 26th; kids will have a chance to win some great prizes. Boo on the Boardwalk is open to the public through October 31st on Mondays-Thursdays from 6pm to 10pm; Fridays from 6pm to 11pm; Saturdays from 2pm to midnight; and Sundays from 2pm to 10pm. Kemah Boardwalk is located on Kipp Avenue in Kemah, Texas. For more information about all these activities, click on the image above.
The Kemah Lighthouse Maze, located at 409 Bradford Avenue in Kemah, has been transformed into Kemah’s Little House of Horrors. The 10,000 square foot attraction is advertised as: “Not for Young Children”. Those who want to brave the maze will find an elevated catwalk, and outdoor cemetery and much more. There are early exits if someone gets too scared; those who brave the entire maze will emerge at the Kemah Picnic Park. Kemah’s Little House of Horrors is open on Thursday-Sunday from 6pm to midnight through October 31st. For more information about Kemah’s Little House of Horrors, click on the image above.
The City of Nassau Bay will celebrate the season during Halloween in the Park on Saturday, October 26th, at the Lake Nassau Park from 6:30pm to 9pm. The haunted peninsula will feature a campfire where stories about how the area came to be haunted will be told and s’mores will be made. Hunting for ghosts will be encouraged! Music, costume contest, pumpkin carving, arts & crafts, and more will be held at the park pavilion. A hayride shuttle will take attendees back and forth from the peninsula to the pavilion.
Helen Hall Library, located in League City at 100 West Walker Street, will welcome Trick-or-Treaters (grades K-5) on Thursday, October 31st in the Library Theater to celebrate Halloween with a craft to make and treats. The Library will welcome all Trick-or-Treaters from 1pm to 8pm; treats will be available (while supplies last).
League City’s Volunteer Fire Department’s Fire Station 4 celebrates Halloween during their Annual Haunted House, on Saturday, October 26th, from 7pm to 10pm. Fire Station 4 is located at 175 West Bay Area Blvd, League City. This free event is open to children aged 12 and under, and 12 and up. Volunteer Fire Personnel will be handing out treats and fire prevention giveaways.
The Dickinson Police Department will host a Halloween Party on Thursday, October 31st, at Department Headquarters, located at 4000 Liggio in Dickinson, from 5:30pm to 8pm. This event will include a costume contest and officers will hand out treats.

Beginning on the evening of November 26 and ending on the evening of January 1st (2013), Dickinson Festival of Lights invite you to enjoy their holiday celebration! A community of retirees, business men and women, and high school students has been getting together since 2003 to put together this amazing spectacle of lights in Paul Hopkins Park.
The festival originally began in a different location in Dickinson, but with the increased popularity and growth of lighting displays, they had to find a much larger place. Now a tradition in Dickinson, many families flock to Paul Hopkins Park to see what is new every year, take photos, and leisurely walk through the myriad of holiday lights. While visiting the festival you can hear holiday music, enjoy a hot cup of cocoa or a snack, purchase a blinky-light trinket, decorate a cookie, or visit with Santa Claus! This local attraction is definitely a labor of love, and there is NO admission charge.
Because of the festival’s popularity, parking started to become an issue at Paul Hopkins Park, so a FREE shuttle bus service was started to help get people in and out to enjoy the lights without a hassle. You can park free of charge at the Dickinson Plaza Shopping Center (Exit 19-Hwy 517) I-45 feeder Road. The shuttle runs at regular intervals and Dickinson Police Officers usually help with traffic control. You can find more information about parking HERE.
Many years ago, I took this photo of the men very close to my heart. The winding tunnel of lights was my son’s favorite section at that time. When he was much younger, he was brave enough to tell Santa his “secret wishes”.
For more information about the Dickinson Festival of Lights, please visit their website: www.dickinsonfestivaloflights.org .When you visit, please look for the donation boxes and help support this free attraction so the displays may continue to delight both young and old for many years to come.

A Salute to Veterans in the Bay Area
Not many people know I am a U.S. Air Force Veteran. I am pleased to know there are many Veterans Day celebrations scheduled in our area, so I have put together a list of the many different activities planned in the Bay Area either on Veterans Day, or before Veterans Day. As you will see, there are a variety of ways you can help pay tribute to those who have served in the armed forces and their families.
League City– The City of League City will honor local veterans, servicemen and women, and their families on November 12, 2012 at Chester L. Davis Sportsplex, located at 1251 League City Parkway, at 10 am. During the Veterans Day ceremony, a piece of art entitled “Most Precious Offering” will be presented to the City by local artist, Saundra Whiddon.
St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, located at 2508 St. Christopher Ave, League City, will honor veterans on November 11, at 10:30 am. All military veterans and their families are invited to attend the service and old-fashioned picnic on the church grounds.
Dickinson- The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6378 and Ladies Auxiliary will hold a Veterans Day Parade on November 10, beginning at 10 am. The parade will start at the Dickinson ISD Administration Office located at 2218 FM 517; and end at the VFW Post location, 5204 Hwy 3.
Webster– Putt-Putt FunHouse will offer a Veterans Day Weekend Special from November 9-12. Active duty and retired military will receive an “All Day Fun Pass” for free (with a valid military ID). Putt-Putt FunHouse is located at 806 East Nasa Parkway, in Webster. For more details, visit their website www.puttputtfunhouse.com.
Clear Lake City- The University of Houston-Clear Lake will host its 10th Annual Veterans Day Celebration on November 11, at 3 pm, at Liberty Park, located at 2700 Bay Area Blvd. This year Vietnam-era Veterans will receive a special recognition. Speaker U.S. Navy Captain (Retired) Robert Naughton will present “The Call to Serve”. Static displays of vintage military equipment will be on display. Parking and admission is free. For more information, go to the campus event webpage HERE.
Nassau Bay- The Bay Area Chorus will perform a Veterans Day Concert in the Worship Center of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, located at 11820 Upper Bay Road, on November 11, at 3 pm. The program, “A Time For Action”, is part of the 48th season for the Bay Area Chorus. For more information and ticket prices, call the BAC hotline: 281.326-1286 or visit their website HERE.
