Bike Around the Bay will be held for its 7th year on Saturday, October 12th thru Sunday, October 13th. The major goal of this event has been to bring people together to see and experience Galveston Bay.
The two-day, 180 mile bicycle ride around Galveston Bay is intended to showcase the beauty and ecological diversity of Galveston Bay. Proceeds benefit the Galveston Bay Foundation’s projects that help preserve wetlands, protect natural habitat, and enhance the water quality of the bay for present users and the future.
Motorists, please be aware of the bicyclists as they pedal along the course pictured above. Saturday, October 12, cyclists will take to the road at 7:30am at Barber’s Hill ISD, (located at 9600 Eagle Drive, Mont Belvieu, TX), on Sunday, October 13, 7:30am, cyclists will embark from Moody Gardens Hotel, (located at Seven Hope Boulevard Galveston, TX).
General information about Bike Around the Bay and the new features of a one-day ride option and “Virtual Riders” can be found on the events website.

Proclaimed as the “Largest 4 Day Motorcycle Rally in North America”, the Lone Star Rally is rumbling down I-45 on its way to Galveston Island over the November 1-4 weekend. Estimates in the past have ranged upwards of 250,000 people crowding the island for this four day event.
To add to the Mardi Gras-like festival, other entertainment includes Bret Michaels live on stage Friday night. The younger generation remembers Bret Michaels for his appearance on The Apprentice, but those of us that are a wee bit older remember him from the iconic hair band Poison.
Charlie Hunnam “Jax” of the hit TV show “Sons of Anarchy” will also make an appearance Friday night, in addition to his previously scheduled Saturday appearance, to sign autographs and hang out with fans.
For more information, follow this link http://www.lonestarrally.com/ or follow the tens of thousands of bikers rolling down I-45.

The other night I was watching a documentary on PBS about Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by his pen name Mark Twain. The documentary was a Ken Burns production and I learned many new things about this great American Author and Humorist. Did you know that he almost committed suicide before he ever wrote his first novel? Did you know he lived in Hawaii for a brief time? The program I watched was part one, so I am looking forward to seeing part two!
Why do I mention Mark Twain? Not merely because of the PBS broadcast, but because of a special event coming to The Grand 1894 Opera House, located in Galveston.
Actor Hal Holbrook will star in "Hal Holbrook - Mark Twain Tonight!" on Saturday, April 13, 2013. I have not purchased my tickets yet, but I am sure this show will sell out. The Grand promotes this show with the following: "A living breathing American Masterpiece and one of the most acclaimed performances in history returns to the Grand!" I did not see this program the first time it was scheduled at The Grand, so I feel the need to get my tickets now. Hal Holbrook is a great actor, but he is also gaining years - who knows how much longer he will be able to travel and perform like this?
Count me in on watching part two of "Mark Twain" on PBS and getting my tickets to see Mark Twain being brought to life by Hal Holbrook. Consider looking at the 2012-2013 Season offerings. Maybe Liza Minnelli, William Shatner, "Lord of the Dance", "A Chorus Line" or The Texas Tenors will be of interest to you. One trip to The Grand and I'll bet you will want to return!
